BMW Motorrad officially unveils the new R 1300 GS

BMW Motorrad revolutionized the touring enduro segment over 40 years ago with the R 80 G/S. Since then, their GS series, featuring boxer engines, has dominated the competition. To maintain this leadership, BMW Motorrad introduces the R 1300 GS with a fresh design, shedding an impressive 12 kg compared to its predecessor.

At its heart lies the iconic two-cylinder boxer engine, now more compact due to an under-engine gearbox and new camshaft drive arrangement. Boasting 1,300 cc, it delivers a robust 107 kW (145 hp) at 7,750 rpm and a peak torque of 149 Nm at 6,500 rpm, making it the most potent BMW boxer engine in series production.

The electronic Dynamic Suspension Adjustment (DSA) takes things up a notch by dynamically tweaking front and rear damping and spring rate based on riding mode, conditions, and maneuvers. Load compensation ensures a thrilling and safe ride on all terrains, whether you’re riding solo, with a passenger, or loaded with gear.

For those who opt for DSA, two more optional features are available: adaptive vehicle height control and sports suspension. The adaptive vehicle height control automatically adjusts the bike’s height for comfort without sacrificing handling. Even in its standard configuration, the R 1300 GS offers four riding modes: “Rain” and “Road” for various road conditions, “Eco” for maximum fuel efficiency, and “Enduro” for an off-road experience.

The R 1300 GS comes with a compact full LED headlamp featuring a unique light icon for exceptional road illumination and visibility in traffic. It incorporates LED units for low and high beam, along with additional LEDs for daytime running and side lights. The hand protectors at the front integrate LED turn indicators, while the rear features function-integrated LED indicators, completing the lighting package of the new R 1300 GS.

The R 1300 GS introduces a fresh design inspired by the traditional GS style while achieving impressive weight reduction. Its sleek profile, highlighted by an aluminum fuel tank with a flatter ramp, adds a dynamic and accessible look. The fuel tank center cover features a sporty texture, enhancing its overall appearance.
