MS-ECE program rolls out new specialization on Biomedical Engineering and Biotechnologies
The Master of Science in Electronics Engineering (MS-ECE) program of the UST Graduate School (UST-GS) adds Biomedical Engineering and Biotechnologies to its specialization track to contribute advances in biomedical and healthcare engineering.
Pushing the boundaries in areas where cutting-edge engineering innovation has the potential to transform patient care, the program aims to inspire, educate, and empower new generations of Thomasian engineers and technologists to improve health-care delivery, develop global health innovations, and seek efficient solutions that work in low-resource environments.
Some of the priority areas that students can delve on include neurotechnology (including therapeutic technologies for mental health such as adaptive music therapy, non-invasive neurostimulators, etc.), wearable technologies for healthcare, bionics for rehabilitation, medical robotics, and digital and tech-enabled care delivery.
The said program will last two years for full-time students, while three to four years for part-time students; it is also open for students belonging to other disciplines.
The Department of Electronics Engineering of the Faculty of Engineering, whose experts will teach in the program, likewise forged ties with the following universities:
- The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST, Hong Kong)
- The Hong Kong Polytechnic University (HK PolyU, Hong Kong)
- Chung Yuan Christian University (CYCU, Taiwan)
- National Taiwan University of Science and Technology (NTUST, Taiwan)
- Chulalongkorn University (CU, Thailand)
- Thammasat University (TU, Thailand)
- Universiti Teknologi Petronas (UTP, Malaysia)
The interdisciplinary program will also involve collaborators from UST’s academic units, namely the Faculty of Medicine and Surgery (FMS), College of Rehabilitation Sciences (CRS), College of Science (CS), and Conservatory of Music (CM).
Originally, the MS ECE program offered tracks in Microelectronics, Communication, and Instrumentation and Control. The new track adds to this list of specializations.
